TOWER
-- In February, Tower District residents have the opportunity
to participate in a community-wide effort to rid the area of unwanted
trash and debris. The city's Operation Clean-up pickups are
slated to begin on Friday, Feb. 15, running through Feb. 22. The actual
date for pickup is set by what section Tower residents inhabit.
Contact the City
of Fresno Public Utilities Commission for more information and
specific dates at their semi-annual pickups hotline (559)498-1447,
Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Anthony Cresap, spokesman for the Tower
Egroups said, "Before and during trash pickups there will
be less on-street parking and the danger of hazards, unsightly messes,
and debris along street gutters. If you plan to participate in Operation
Clean-up please remember a few pieces of street-trash etiquette."
- Many careless drivers are known to travel at unsafe speeds through
Tower thoroughfares. Piles of trash or obstacles which encroach
upon the traffic-zone could cause an unnecessary accident and
property damage.
- Many young children live in the Tower and travel the sidewalks
and streets to and from school twice a day. Take extra care not
to leave sharp objects or boards with nails or screws exposed.
- Gutters are for drainage, too! Don't forget to place refuse
at least 10" from the curb for area drainage in case of wet
weather.
- Keep it organized. Remember that neighbors as well as visitors
to the Tower District have to look at it before it gets picked
up. The City's of Fresno's Solid
Waste Mgmt. crew has the priviledged task of disposing of
it. Please do what you can to keep it simple and organized as
much as possible.
"Tower residents
should be receiving a City of Fresno flyer regarding Operation
Cleanup. The flyer explains the do's-and-don'ts of this golden
opportunity to get rid of the types of garbage that doesn't go out
weekly," Cresap added. Do your part to keep the Tower District
looking clean during Operation Clean-up!
